We all agree the state of our roads are appalling. Potholes and damage everywhere. They are dangerous and very costly to us as individuals when damaging our tyres and cars. Henley Conservatives have 5 Superusers. What does that mean? The Super User is granted additional authority to raise works orders directly with contractors for minor repairs on our roads, and depending on how deep or large the hole is, OCC need to react and fix it within a timescale that can range between 2hours and 3 weeks. Pauline, Tracy and Jilly were out this week with their super user authority (gained by training) spraying holes and reporting them. Impressive.
Caroline Newton (our Parliamentary candidate), was one of the Oxfordshire residents who needed a new tyre after driving on our roads this week. Caroline said "Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) has rolled out 20mph across the county at a cost of £8 million. The government gave them £3.7 million for potholes last year, so more money spent on 20mph zones. It's a question of priorities. In the priorities OCC drew up to underpin their budget choices this year they didn't include road repairs in the top 9 issues. The OCC is led by Liberal Democrats and Greens, when the decision was made to roll out the 20 mph zones at a cost of £8 million, Labour was still in alliance with them".
We can all use Fix My Street to report potholes and other problems on our roads (like streetlights not working). https://www.fixmystreet.com
20 mph streets and zones, we have in Henley, and as we all know, they are not being monitored or adhered to, so changing the speed limit is only part of the solution.
Our roads are also being damaged by heavy HGV's using our small town as a cut through. We do have a weight limit on the Henley bridge, but again no monitoring or enforcing of it. We would like to see a HGV weight limit in all of Henley that is enforced.
We want to make sure our streets are safe to use for all vehicles and all different mode of transport on them and that the money spent on the roads are prioritised correctly.
